How to use Recommendations to earn Citations

In the AI Visibility module, Recommendations are the bridge between data and results. While the dashboard shows you where you stand, this section tells you exactly how to improve your Citation Rank and Share of Voice.

The module provides three distinct paths to move your brand from being "mentioned" to being "cited" with a direct link.

1. New Article Opportunities: Filling Content Gaps

AI engines don't always ignore brands because of a lack of quality; often, it’s a lack of specific information. If an AI breaks a prompt into five "sub-queries" (Query Fanout) and your site only answers three, it will cite a competitor who answers all five.

  • How it works: This section identifies "Target Prompts" where your brand is currently invisible or ranks low. It points to high-value gaps where the AI is looking for information you haven't provided yet.

  • The Action: Use the suggested keyword and prompt to create a new, "AI-ready" page. By addressing these specific gaps, you provide the AI with the exact "missing pieces" it needs to complete its answer for future users.

2. Backlink Suggestions: Securing Authority in the Marketplace

Generative engines prioritize sources with high "Machine Trust." If the AI sees that the domains it already trusts are linking to you, your website becomes a primary candidate for citation.

  • How it works: The tool identifies the exact domains the AI is already using as footnotes for your target prompts.

  • Direct Marketplace Integration: If a domain is listed in our Backlinks Marketplace, you can secure a placement immediately. This allows you to skip manual outreach and negotiations, placing your brand directly on the sites the AI is already "reading" to form its answers.

  • The Action: Check for the "Direct Secure" option to finalize a link placement on a trusted third-party site, signaling to the AI that your brand is a vetted authority.

3. Platform Engagement: Influencing Community Signals

AI models (especially those with real-time web access) don't just read articles; they monitor community sentiment across forums, discussion boards, and social platforms. Being a cited authority in these public spaces "trains" the AI to view your brand as a recommended solution.

  • How it works: This section highlights active discussions across the web—including major community forums, niche industry boards, and social Q&A sites—where your target themes are being debated.

  • The Action: Follow the provided links to join these live conversations. By providing expert answers and helpful insights in these threads, you create fresh data points that AI models pick up during their next crawl.

  • The Goal: Consistent, helpful engagement in these external communities improves your brand’s sentiment and increases the likelihood that the AI will reference your expertise in its own generated responses.

Summary of Actions

  • To fill informational gaps: Create content based on New Article Opportunities.

  • To build machine trust: Use the Backlink Marketplace to gain authority from sites the AI already cites.

  • To influence reputation and "social proof": Engage with the threads found in Platform Engagement Opportunities.
