How To Add Custom URL In Cruise Mode?

Follow our step-by-step guide to effortlessly integrate custom URLs, enhancing your articles for maximum impact and engagement.

As content discovery shifts from traditional search to AI-first platforms, your content needs more than just keywords to stand out. It needs context, credibility, and clarity that machines can easily interpret.

That’s where Custom Source URLs come in.

Within Scalenut’s evolving GEO ecosystem, this simple yet powerful feature allows you to link your statements to trusted sources—improving your content’s trustworthiness and enhancing its discoverability across search engines and AI platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and more.

Let’s break down what this feature is, how it fits into your GEO strategy, and how you can use it in Cruise Mode for maximum impact.

What is a Custom Source URL?

A Custom Source URL allows you to manually attach a reference or external source to your content. Think of it as a semantic bridge between your article and a trusted knowledge base—making it easier for AI engines and search bots to understand the credibility and context of your page.

In a GEO framework, this becomes especially important. AI models are trained to value structured, well-referenced content. A clear outbound signal—like a relevant source URL—helps them interpret your narrative, surface your page in answers, and even cite you in AI summaries.

How To Add a Custom URL in Cruise Mode?

STEP 1

Log in to your Scalenut account. Then, click the “Article Writer/Cruise Mode'' button available on the left navigation panel under the GEO Core section on your Scalenut Dashboard.

STEP 2

On the redirected screen, in the keywords field, enter your primary keyword along with any relevant secondary keywords. Next, select your target location and click the “Create” button to proceed.

STEP 3

To tailor your competition benchmarking to align with your content and marketing goals. Choose to analyze the top 10, 20, or 30 ranking pages, allowing you to customize your competitive research based on your specific objectives and target audience. If not, stick to the default TOP 30 and click ‘Create’.

STEP 4

Once the report is created and you open it, you’d be redirected to the Context section of the Cruise Mode. Here, select the Article Type and give instructions to the AI (optional), and then move on to the GEO Guidelines section. Now, click on Reference Articles(AI+SERP) to make your selection.

STEP 5

The Reference Articles (AI + SERP) step is where you define the foundation of your content strategy inside Scalenut’s GEO engine. This module allows you to select up to 5 top-performing articles — pulled from both search engine results pages (SERP) and AI-generated outputs — to act as your benchmarking sources. You can either select/deselect from here, or choose to add the Custom URL.

STEP 6

To add a custom URL, simply click ‘Add Custom URL’, enter the URL of your choice into the box and click on the tick beside it. It’d automatically give you the data like the rest of the URLs.

STEP 7

If you’re happy with the data and would still like to add it as a reference article, simply click on Update to reflect the change. If not, you can always delete the URL by clicking on the delete button beside it.

Tip: Use source URLs from domains with high authority and topical relevance—this improves both AI trust signals and your overall GEO Content Score.

And Voila! You’ve successfully added Custom URLs to your article.

Integrating Custom Source URLs into your workflow, you’re not just improving SEO—you’re training AI systems to recognize, rank, and recommend your content across multiple engines.

It’s a small move with GEO-sized impact.
